Sharon and Angela,
Hello I would like to introduce everyone to Sharon mom's caregiver 9 hours per week. Sharon has been stopping by to see mom for the past few years in the afternoon. It was more often when she had her own apartment. Now with mom at our house it is still necessary because mom needs help with most everything these days - getting dressed, meals etc. So in the afternoon 3 days per week Sharon stops by and makes lunch, plays dominoes and board games with mom and makes sure she is set before one of us gets back home shortly after Sharon leaves at 3:30. Keeping mom active with dominoes and board games is an effort but Sharon gives it her best shot. Everytime she sets up the game it is new to mom so the actual rules don't matter. Sharon really makes an effort with mom and will give most anything a try. At the apartment she would take mom for a walk with her walker around the circular driveway and when it was raining around the upstairs walkway to the apartments. Now that mom is at our house and walking is more of an issue for her we try and take mom shopping with us or to SBUX - Starbucks - so she at least gets out of the house and gets bit of exercise or walking. As you can imagine getting Mom ready to go, getting in and out of the car, and buckling the seatbelt is a workout for you both! Grocery shopping is a really good choice because mom still likes to look at everything in the store. You best not be in a hurry though with the shopping cart replaceing the walker mom is ready to go. If you have the time she can get a fair amount of exercise. Mom does not keep track of how long she has been in the store or how many times she has actually walked up and down the same asile so as mentioned if you make the time it is her best form of exercise these days.
